Testing underway on RTD North Metro Rail Line

Post Date:04/18/2019 3:25 PM
Residents on the western edge of the city near Colorado Boulevard may notice new activity that has recently begun on the tracks of the long-awaited Regional Transportation District (RTD) North Metro Rail Line, or N Line. With construction complete, RTD has now placed test cars on the tracks to begin testing on the line. Testing will continue throughout most of this year, with the start of service currently targeted for spring 2020.

While Commerce City’s segment of the line does not include any at-grade rail crossings on public streets, area residents may still hear train horns and other testing activities between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and some Saturdays. In the interests of safety, never trespass on the tracks and do not touch or throw objects at the overhead electrical wires, which carry 25,000 volts of electricity.

The N Line brings RTD train service from Union Station in Denver through Commerce City, Northglenn, Thornton and north Adams County. The Commerce City-72nd Avenue Station will offer another public transportation option for residents and help revitalize the surrounding area through the city’s Station Area Master Plan (STAMP). Southbound travel from Commerce City to Union Station will take approximately 12 minutes, while heading north to the Eastlake-124th Station will take approximately 15 minutes.
