Tower-Peña project progress: New east side lanes complete
Traffic in both directions on Tower Road is now traveling on the newly completed pavement on the east side of the road throughout the project area. The switch to new pavement took place at the south end of the project in May, but was completed on the north end of the project on Monday, June 25.
Crews have started removing pavement on the west side of the road, with paving on the new southbound lanes scheduled to begin in July. Construction should also start in the coming weeks on widening the Peña Boulevard bridge over Second Creek, which will carry the much-anticipated new on-ramp from Tower Road to westbound Peña Boulevard.
No full road closures are expected during the project, but drivers may experience delays, lane closures and changing traffic alignments on both Tower Road and westbound Peña Boulevard throughout construction. The project is on-schedule to be finished later this year.
