Peña Boulevard lane shift in place starting Thursday night
With work on the Tower-Peña ramp and widening project picking up, drivers on westbound Peña Boulevard will encounter a minor lane shift and lower speed limit at the interchange with Tower Road for the next several months.
Both lanes of westbound Peña Boulevard are shifting slightly to the left and the right shoulder is being closed to allow space for bridge widening to occur. The existing bridge carrying Peña Boulevard over Second Creek is being expanded to accommodate the new westbound on-ramp from Tower Road. The speed limit in this stretch of Peña goes from the normal 65 mph down to 55 mph. (Overnight lane closures will be implemented as the shift is put in place on Thursday and Friday.)
This lane shift will remain in place into the summer months as bridge construction occurs during the first phase of the project, which also includes rebuilding the existing westbound Peña off-ramp to Tower Road and widening the northbound lanes of Tower through the interchange. The second phase involves building the new westbound Peña on-ramp and widening the southbound lanes of Tower.
No full road closures are expected during the project, but drivers may experience minor delays, lane closures and other impacts on both Tower Road and westbound Peña Boulevard throughout construction. The project is expected to be complete by the end of 2018.
